Journey with the Communications Media Department at Waynesburg University and the CWSU to build awareness for the value of media, its limitations, and the power Girl Scouts have to lead and inspire others.
Through this half-day program on Saturday, April 22, 2023, registered Girl Scouts in grades five through 12 are invited to learn about current trends in newspaper, radio, television, and photography while exploring Waynesburg University's student-run newspaper, radio station, television station, and photography studio.
Note: Cadette Girl Scouts will complete all the steps (except their Take Action project) to complete the Girl Scout MEdia Journey.
- Newspaper - What does it take to write a newspaper article for print and digital distribution that catches a reader's attention while remaining ethical?
- Radio - In a world of Spotify, Apple Music, and Sirius XM, what steps are broadcast stations taking to remain relevant? (Plus...you may even get an opportunity to talk "on air.")
- Television - While the broadcast industry is constantly changing, the core value remains the same - to educate and inform viewers. In a highly competitive market, how do today's journalists ensure fair and honest reporting?
- Photography - A 2021 study found that nine in 10 young women edit and filter photos selfies before posting them online. Therefore, what you see online is not typically what it actually is. How is this damaging our self-image? (Plus...get a professional unfiltered headshot taken that you can use on social media.)
Note: Cadette Girl Scouts will complete all the steps (except their Take Action project) to complete the Girl Scout MEdia Journey.
